Syringe Filter Pore Size Rating & Retention Efficiency

Posted September 28 2026

Filter pore size dictates the filtration threshold and protects delicate downstream analytical columns. Some key details are as follows:

0.22 µm / 0.20 µm: Essential for sterilization and microbial removal. It screens out bacteria and fine particulates, making it mandatory for UHPLC or sterile media prep.

0.45 µm: The standard for general clarification. It effectively removes larger particulates and precipitates, ensuring faster flow rates and lower backpressure for standard HPLC systems.

Pre-filtration Stack: For high-viscosity or particle-heavy samples, high-quality filters feature an integrated glass microfiber (GMF) pre-filter layer stacked above the membrane to prevent premature clogging.
